Fire Services

In case of emergencies call 911

Bass River Township is serviced by the New Gretna Volunteer Fire Company located on North Maple Avenue between the Municipal Building and the Bass River Elementary School.

The fire company meets every Monday evening at 7:00 PM (except holidays). We are always open to visitors and encourage anyone (male or female) that has an interest (joining or just to gather information) to stop by. You can also call us at 609-296-4999. The training a volunteer receives can be a door opener for a paid position in towns that have paid fire and EMS departments.

Convenience Center (Dump)

CONVENIENCE CENTER STICKER APPLICATION

A current year vehicle sticker is required to use the convenience center. To obtain a sticker, complete the 2023 – 2024 sticker application.

Household Trash
Bulky materials such as furniture
Metals
Electronics
Small Brush and Limbs–no larger than 3″ in diameter

Just about everything with the following exceptions:
No construction debris
No Hazardous Materials or Paints
No Bio Hazard Materials (i.e.-needles, blood)
No Propane Tanks
No Tires
No Grass Clippings or Leaves

Please note that no construction debris is allowed to be disposed of at the Convenience Center. If you are found to be in violation it will lead to a $15,000 fine by the Department of Environmental Protection.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal days are held periodically on a Saturday morning. They are listed on the “Home” page when scheduled.

Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex in Florence, NJ will accept Hazardous Waste year-round. See the Burlington County website for information about the Complex.

COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

Bass River Township is part of the Burlington County Community Emergency Respose Team (CERT) and the Pinelands Regional CERT Team. The Pinelands Team consist of teams from Bass River, Medford, Shamong, and Tabernacle. Each township team is under control of the local Township Emergency Management Coordinator. William Lowe, the Tabernacle Emergency Management Coordinator, is the overall Coordinator for Pinelands Regional CERT.CERT Members must go through a 20 hour training program and are not permitted to self-activate. They operate under the direction of the Pinelands or local coordinator. Although registration information from residents will be carried over, all residents are urged to sign up under the new system. This article describes the changeover. It collects information about residents with disabilities / access / functional needs and their families, friends, caregivers, and associates so emergency responders can better plan to serve them in a disaster or other emergency. Those living in Bass River Township and the southeastern part of Burlington County east of 206 and south of route 70 can receive needed food from the Emergency Assistance Pantry located at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey Southern Branch at 6735 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township

Senior Services

The Burlington County offers numerous services to seniors with a plethora of information on the Senior Citizens county website.

Home bound Burlington County residents who are 60 years of age or older may qualify for Meals on Wheels. They can be reached by phone at 609-702-7053 or information can be found on the Meals on Wheels website

The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department offers services for seniors through their Senior Services Unit.

Social Services

Social Services will be at the Bass River Municipal Building on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9am – 1pm. For help outside that time contact the county office.

Peak hurricane season is approaching and we may begin to see more tropical storms and hurricanes make landfall up and down the coast. How the New Jersey Department of Transportation prepares and plans, should there be a need to evacuate shore communities, is highlighted in their newsletter.
