TUCKERTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY- A great place to see a wide variety of historical artifacts and research material centered around Tuckerton and it's sister communities. Close by, it's well worth a personal visit.

OCEAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY- Our neighboring communities of Tuckerton and Little Egg Harbor are in Ocean County, so a trip to the Ocean County Historical Society may be beneficial.
GLOUCESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - Houses a great collection of Family Geneology books, some of whom are related to families in the Bass River Township-Little Egg Harbor area. They published and sell "The Mathis Family of Little Egg Harbor" and "The Descendaants of William Cranmer of Elizabetown, NJ" which deal directly with the Mathis and Cramer families in our area. Both are "must have" books for the serious geneologist.
NEW JERSEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - Explore their map, photograph, artifacts, manuscripts , periodical, family vertical file, etc. collections. You may come up with a gem!
ATLANTIC HERITAGE CENTER OF NEW JERSEY - Formerly the Atlantic County Historical Society, provides information regarding their Museum and extensive South Jersey History and Geneology resources.
NEW JERSEY HISTORY MYSTERIES - This site is dedicated to all the little known and mostly forgotten people, places and events that make New Jersey the interesting state that it is. Pirates, politicians, murderers and heroes have all made their way through New Jersey's history, and the stories and photographs posted here document their journeys. Also, features those places and events that were once famous, featured or revered in New Jersey history, but that few today remember. A new story is fetured each month.

BURLINGTON COUNTY COLLEGE LIBRARY - Most people don't consider this valuable resource when doing historical and geneological research. Check out their microfilm collections, especially the minutes to a wide variety Friends (Quaker) Meeting minutes, including the Little Egg Harbor Friends Meeting minutes. Xerox copies from their microfilm machines are inexpensive.
BURLINGTON COUNTY LIBRARY - Check out their "Genealogy Guide". Also, on their "Databases A-Z" link you will find the following helpful: Batsto Citizens Gazette Index (We have the back copies of the Batsto Citizens Gazette at the Bass River Community Library); Burlington County Newspapers Notices Index; New Jersey Mirror Index, 1818-1947; and Heritage Quest Online.
NEW JERSEY HISTORY - Includes links to various time periods in New Jersey history, including Pre History, Lenni-Lenape Indians, Colonial NJ, The Revolution, 1800's, Civil War, Victorian Era, 1900's, WWI, WWII, and the 1960's & 1970's. SOUTH JERSEY HERITAGE - An excellent narative of the history of New Jersey with well thought out chapters. The author presents the following in his introduction . . . "The purpose of this volume is to provide a brief, but comprehensive, account of South Jersey from the early explorations to the present. It is intended, by doing so, to make the reader aware, as well as both proud and critical, of his heritage for whatever personal enjoyment he may derive from it, and that he might be enabled thereby to place South Jerseys present, with its problems and prospects, in an historical perspective."
TUCKERTON SEAPORT - Visit the offical website of the Tuckerton Seaport whose goals are to preserve, present and interpret the rich maritime history, artistry, heritage, and environment of the Jersey shore and the unique contributions of its Baymen. On a 40-acre site along Tuckerton Creek, you will discover the sights, sounds, and smells that surrounded the lives of the people who lived and worked on the ocean, bays and back creeks of Coastal New Jersey. The authentic working Seaport village currently contains 16 re-created historical structures representing the various trades and crafts unique to the Barnegat Bay region and to the Baymen. Along with exhibits of the baymen's tools, decoys, and Barnegat Bay boats, there are demonstrations, instructional classes and hands-on workshops to preserve the traditional baymen's trades and craftsmanship.
NEW JERSEY PINEBARRENS - An interesting discussion with photos of the East-West Lawrence Line which runs through Little Egg Harbor. Click on the "NJPineBarrens.com Image Gallery" link, then the "Historic Map Collection" link to download a good variety of historic maps of the South Jersey area. Also, a good article on the Battle of Chestnut Neck.
NEW JERSEY PINE BARRENS AND DOWN JERSEY - Includes Photo Galleries, Documents, Maps, Railroads, Plant Life, etc. as well as various Discussion Forums. Of particular interest is the Historical Photos from the Library of Congress on Page 3 of the Photo Gallery section and the "Historical EBooks" links.
BIBLE RECORDS ON LINE - This site contains 940 bibles with 2,929 surnames. It's worth a visit to see if any of the bibles include the surnames in your family.
BURLINGTON COUNTY GENEALOGY RESOURCES - A broad collection of web sites presented by the Burlington County Library that should be browsed by anyone interested in Burlington County and South Jersey genealogy. Includes Church, Military, Newspaper,Vital Statistics, etc.
BURLINGTON COUNTY NEWSPAPER NOTICES INDEX - The "Newspaper Notices Index" includes birth announcements, marriage announcements, death notices, and obituaries gathered from over twenty Burlington County area newspapers and publications. The oldest citations in this index date back to 1810 and are from the Rural Visitor, a newspaper published in Burlington City, Burlington County, NJ, from July 1810 to July 1811. The majority of the citations are death notices and marriage announcements from the 1800s; the birth announcements are from the 1970s-early 1980s.

NEW JERSEY MIRROR NEWSPAPER - Nathan Palmer began publishing the "Burlington Mirror" in 1818 in Mount Holly, the county seat for Burlington County, New Jersey, as a weekly newspaper focusing on business and real estate concerns of the county. The newspaper quickly expanded coverage to include news, commentary and social events. Over its 130 years of publication, "Burlington Mirror", later known as "New Jersey Mirror", recorded the history of Burlington County in detail. Of note are the marriage and death notices from 1818-1848 (before NJ began recording vital statistics), excellent coverage of the Civil War (especially the Burlington County Regiment), detailed legislative and agricultural news, and local news from individual townships. LITTLE EGG HARBOR WAS A PART OF BURLINGTON COUNTY UNTIL 3/30/1891. Type in "Tuckerton" or "New Gretna" or a family name such as "Gifford", "Mathis", or "Parker" and see what news items you come up with.

WEST JERSEY HISTORY PROJECT - Documents, images, maps, and articles related to South Jersey history and genealogy. Not specifically about our area, but well worth a visit. Very informative!
SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX - Often information on an individual is more difficult to obtain the closer you get to our present date due to various privacy laws. The Social security Death Index is a good source for current data. There isn't much information there, however, confirming a death date for an individual somethimes can be very important. Give the index a try!
